The National - Anyones Ghost

The National have released the new single from their highly praised album High Violet (released 11th of May). We blogged about the previous single Bloodbuzz Ohio which has received massive airplay in Europe, the new single is bound to do the same. Anyones Ghost sounds a bit claustrophobic, a bit haunting you could say, the lyrics are very dark ‘You said it was not inside my heart, it was/ You said it should not tear a kid apart, it does’ to the wistful ‘Go out at night with your headphones on, again/ And walk through the Manhattan valleys of, the dead’. You can hear influences of The Smiths and Joy Devision throughout the song (and album for that matter). Take a listen to Anyones Ghost below
